Life After The Singularity
The Wright Album Samples (Compiled by Kasper of Rap1masse)
As far as I know this is a first, a sample set for a remix album. The remix album was made by Kasper/Isbjerg over at Rap1masse. It was so hot that I had to get ny hands on the samples. The album blends The Black Album with some great tracks from O.V. Wright's career. It's definitely worth a checkout. I plan on doing sets for his and other remix albums soon.

Trapping Muzik
T.I. - Trap Muzik [The Samples]
The summer between Junior and Senior year in high school ('03) was the height of my anti(non-New York)-Mainstream Rap era. That was, until I saw the video for Be Easy on Rap City. Prima Facie, it wasn't anything special, but something about this young southern fried rapper I had never heard of before just blew me away. I copped Trap Muzik and jammed to it for the rest of the summer. In the fall, Rubberband Man and 24 were dropped as singles and the rest, as they say, is history...Actually, no, it isn't. I have been jamming to Paper Trail for about a week, and though it's a decent album, all it did was remind me of how awesome Trap Muzik (and to lesser degree Urban Legend) was. Even though he has grown into a huge superstar, his music has lost that amatuerish (in the best sense of the word) effervesence that it did from '02-'04. Just my 2 cents. As always, a shoutout to Kev and Thomas for their assists.

Just Another Nigga From The Bronx
Fat Joe Da Gangsta - Represent
Another Collab with Kev & Thomas over at Thisishiphop. This album is Fat Joe's debut. Lyrically it was nothing special (this was before he had Pun to Ghost for him), but the beats were classic early 90's boom-bap. The sample set is suprisingly very Jazzy (and I mean Bop jazzy, not Funk jazzy). My fave track is the 30 minute-plus Miles Davis track "He Loved Him Madly". Enjoy.

Bon Apetit
The Wu Tang Clan - The W [The Samples]
This is another collabo with Kev and Thomas over at This Is Hip-Hop. The W is my favorite Wu group album (I now I'm in a minority), probably because it was the first one to come out while I was "conscious" of hip hop and was the one that got me into the Wu as a whole. As with any RZA produced album, some of the samples here are just delicious (Choice cut: Syl Johnson's "Is it because I'm black"). Bon Apetit.

Constellation Funk
El-P - Fantastic Damage [The Samples]
This one is for my fellow Def Jukies out there. If I was to say that this sample set dropped into my lap from the moon, I wouldn't be far off from the truth. I've been looking for the samples to this album since the beginning of this blog and I had only managed to find 1 (the Bowie sample). Then, out of nowhere , an angel, by the name of Kasper Beckmann, dropped it into my inbox. Though it isn't complete, I don't foresee it becoming any "completer" any time soon, so here goes.
UPDATE - Raymond Scott - Cyclic Bit ['T.O.J'] - zshare

The Milky Way
Black Milk - Popular Demand [The Samples]
(Megaupload)
This was one of the first sets I started on. The fact that it has taken this long is both a testament to my laziness and to Black Milk's ability to camouflage his samples. This album, Popular Demand, was, by a wide margin, my favorite hip-hop album of '07. It was fresh and cohesive in a way that very few rap albums, at least nowadays, are. This isn't a complete set but I've been sitting on it for too long, so if I find any of the missing samples I'll update the set. As always, this is brought to you with a huge assist from Thomas.
You've Been My Inspiration ['Popular Demand'] 1 The Main Ingrediants 2:53 Popular Demand [The Samples]
We're A Winner ['Sound The Alarm'] 2 The Impressions 2:25 Popular Demand [The Samples]

Beanie Sigal - The Truth & The Reason [The Samples]
I post this with a huge apology to Thomas. He hooked me up with most of these from a while back, I just hadn't got'n around to posting them yet. I meant to add the samples for "The Solution" to this set, but I'm still digging out a good sample list for it. This has been a long time coming.

Kingdom Came (It wasn't all that impressive)
Jay-Z - Kingdom Come [The Samples]
(Megaupload - see of post for alternative mirror)
I only started on this a few days ago but thanks to a major assist from Thomas, it's finito. This is probably Jay's worst recieved album even though, in my opinion, it's faaaaaaar better than volume 2 and on par with volume 3 and Blueprint 2, but obviously below his best. Much of the album is played so only about half the tracks use samples, the obvious ones being the "Superfreak" sample on "Kingdom Come" and the "Shaft in Africa" sample on "Show Me..." So Between Kev, Ivan, and I, we've done sets for all of Jay's albums (unless someone is REALLY dying to hear a sample set for "Street's is Watching"). Hooray for us...or not.
Keep The Faith ['The Prelude'] 1 Mel & Tim 3:53 Kingdom Come [The Samples]
Whipping Post ['Oh My God'] 2 Genya Ravan 4:32 Kingdom Come [The Samples]
Super Freak ['Kingdom Come'] 3 Rick James 3:26 Kingdom Come [The Samples]

Ode to Billy Joe ['Kingdom Come'] 5 Lou Donaldson 6:32 Kingdom Come [The Samples]
Shaft In Africa ['Show Me What You Got'] 6 Johnny Pate 3:04 Kingdom Come [The Samples]
Show Em Whatcha Got ['Show Me What You Got'] 7 Public Enemy 1:56 Kingdom Come [The Samples]
Darkest Light ['Show Me What You Got'] 8 Lafayette Afro Rock Band 6:21 Kingdom Come [The Samples]
Take Me To The Mardi Gras ['Dig A Hole'] 9 Bob James 5:51 Kingdom Come [The Samples]
Non Ti Scordar Di Me [Minority Report'] 10 Luciano Pavarotti 2:59 Kingdom Come [The Samples]
22 Two's ['44 Fours] 11 Jay-Z 3:31 Kingdom Come [The Samples]

Mr. Lucky Lefty
Jay-Z - Vol, 3. The Life and Times of S. Carter [The Samples]
(Megaupload for now, I'll mirror somewhere else later)
This is another Chris Paul-David West alley-hoop from Thomas. Ivan and Kev have already done most of Jay's catalog (except "Kingdom Come", which I started on a few days ago). Since this album was made at the height of the whole early 200o's Timbo and Swizzy induced Cassio-craze there aren't as many samples as there are on a usual Jay album; But the ones here are especially serious (The two "Big Pimpin" samples are the on opposite sides of the music spectrum but are both works of immaculate beauty).
The Burining of The Midnight Lamp ['Hova Song (Intro-Outro)'] 1 Rotary Connection 4:42 Vol. 3... Life And Times Of S. Carter [The Samples]
Crop Dustin' ['So Ghetto'] 2 Steve Cropper 3:05 Vol. 3... Life And Times Of S. Carter [The Samples]
Sporco Ma Distinto ['So Ghetto'] 3 Ennio Morricone 1:59 Vol. 3... Life And Times Of S. Carter [The Samples]
Who You Wit II ['So Ghetto'] 4 Jay-Z 4:30 Vol. 3... Life And Times Of S. Carter [The Samples]
Overnight Scenario ['Let's Do It Again'] 5 Rare Essence 4:56 Vol. 3... Life And Times Of S. Carter [The Samples]
Heads High ['S. Carter'] 6 Mr. Vegas 3:31 Vol. 3... Life And Times Of S. Carter [The Samples]
Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime ['Big Pimpin'] 7 The Korgis 4:12 Vol. 3... Life And Times Of S. Carter [The Samples]
Khosara ['Big Pimpin'] 8 Abdel Halim Hafez 2:16 Vol. 3... Life And Times Of S. Carter [The Samples]
Murder ['There's Been a Murder'] 8 Alana Davis 5:01 Vol. 3... Life And Times Of S. Carter [The Samples]

Reppin' Time: BX

Fat Joe- The Elephant in the Room [The Samples]
Fat Joe- Me, Myself & I [The Samples]
(Megaupload)
I definitely haven't been repping the Bronx enough on this blog. I'll try to make up for it with this two-fer. As I told Ivan the other day, Fat Joe, in my opinion, is the only remaining commercially relevant rapper the Bronx has going for it. I didn't always like him but his last two albums have made a believer of me. He is not the most talented rapper out there, but he's a hard worker and you can tell that he is putting in the effort, even if the result isn't always pretty. He's always had a good ear for beats and these sample sets bear that out. Some of these joints will simply blow your minds ("Fugitive From Love" and "Women of the Ghetto" especially).
A shout out goes to Thomas for his help on both sets.
UPDATE- I forgot to add the Premo scratch samples on "The White". Here it is http://www.zshare.net/download/11821137447ce99b/

Dyn-O-mite
Rhymefest - Blue Collar [The Samples]
(Megaupload)
Ivan and I whipped this together last weekend. My favorite part of this set is the fact that Mark Ronson samples Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings. I've always wondered why more producers don't sample them, you can damn near get them to come play it for you themselves.
This album is one of the few rap albums (about 10 -15) that actually live on my ipod in their entirety. The word underrated may be in and of itself overrated but this album perfectly fits. So if you've never heard this before, run to your nearest best buy...who am I kidding, just iTunes or rapidshare it.

Dah Samples
Smif-N-Wessen - Dah Shinin' [Dah Samples]
(Megaupload)
All thanks, again, go to Thomas for this one. This was all him.
Smif-N-Wessen, along with MOP, and to a lesser degree ONYX, brought new levels of lyricism and flair to shout-rap. Tek and Steele proved that it was possible to build entire careers around dressing like construction workers (Carhatt Jackets and Timbaland Boots) and stomping out bitchassness. This album stands as the masterpiece of the genre (though a strong argument can be made for MOP's Warriorz) and its sample set, as would be expected, is canyon-like.

Kwelity
Talib Kweli - Quality [The Samples]
(Megaupload)
This is one of the albums that introduced me to Hip-Hop and it has held up surprisingly well over the years. It is often cited as Kweli's definitive solo album and even as the definitive album of the whole early 2000's New York coffehouse backpack/Neo-Soul Aesthetic movement (I would personally give that badge to D'Angelo's Voodoo). Since most of the album uses live instrumentation the samples in this set are often not samples in the purest sense, but rather interpolations and resung/replayed parts. It's an eclectic mix of smooth soul (think Curtis Mayfield), hard soul (think Stax), psychadelic, jazz, reggae, and plain ol' hip-hop. The 4 sample sequence from track 6-9 are some of the most soulful 20 minutes I have ever experienced in my life.
There is one track missing from the set, Wilbur Bascomb's "Devil's Triangle" from his album "And Future Dreams". It has never been released on CD, so if anyone out there has it somewhere in their LP collection, hit me up in the comments or via email.
Sinnerman ['Get By'] 1 Nina Simone 10:20 Quality [The Samples]
Doggone ['Get By'] 2 Love 12:07 Quality [The Samples]
Diana In the Autumn Wind ['Shock Body'] 3 Gap Mangione 3:01 Quality [The Samples]

The Sun Could Never Be Pussy, He Always Come Out
Ghostface Killah - Bulletproof Wallets [The Samples]
(Megaupload)
The thanks for this one goes out to Thomas; he did most of the work; I simply played Stockton to his Malone.
I might be the only person in the world who loves this album. Most other Ghost fans look at it as his worst. As it was my Wu-tang B-boy Alpha, I have a weak spot for it. To this day, Love Session (or Detroit Heavenly for those of us who copped it in its completely messed up first printing) is one of my favorite love songs ever. Definitely wedding dance material. The only song on this album I'm not partial to is "Never Be The Same Again", it just doesn't feel like a Ghost song, lacks that innate soulfulness.
As some might know there are 3 classic tracks that were left off the album for sample reasons. 2, The Watch and Good Times, because Epic wouldn't shell out for clearance and 1, The Sun (where the title of the post comes from), because The Rza forgot what he sampled for the track so they couldn't even begin to clear it. I included the samples for The Watch and Good Times in the set.
The Problem with the set is that we couldn't figure out what songs were sampled for the last two tracks, Love Session and Street Chemistry. So if anyone has any ideas for those two samples, hit me up in the comments of via email.
I dare any Ghost fan to not flip completely the fck out at the 3:07 mark of "Storm in the Summertime".
Update- We made a mistake with the sample for "The Forest". Here's the actual sample used for the track. The Imaginations - Ballad of Metheia

I found myself bumping Ivan's Operation Doomsday set the other day so I was like, what the hell, MM...Food deserves one too. Endtroducing...My Magnum Opus
Dj Shadow - Endtroducing...[The Samples]
(Megaupload)
After doing the Deadringer samples, I felt it only appropriate to do one for Endtroducing, its spiritual godfather. Bad idea. Very Bad Idea. This was a monster. When I saw the sample list I almost gave up before I started. These samples took me to the bowels of the internet and on the way I think I learned enough German and Portuguese to talk my ass out of a fight. If I tried to remember and list all of the different blogs and forums that helped me in my search my brain would bail out my ears. So here goes nothing and everything. 70 mthrfckng samples.

Dear Spring
(Megaupload)
I originally set out to make a sample set for Bleek's previous album, MADE. Somewhere along the line I decided this sample set was more interesting. The production is handled mainly by Just Blaze and 9th Wonder so as expected the Samples Knock.

Blaxploitation Rap
Camp Lo - Uptown Saturday Night [The Samples]
(Megaupload)
What Can I say. No one who has ever heard this album will ever forget the horns on Luchini or the smothness of Coolie high or the. . . Let's just say it's memorable. Ski absolutely murked the beats. Each one drips Blaxploitation wet. It's the album that began my little sample digging expedition. It has taken so long to release because I haven't been able to find a list of all the samples used for the album. At some point I realized that if I was to keep waiting I will wait forever. So I'm posting it now, if I get a more complete list, I will find the rest of the samples and update/repost as necessary.
