Endtroducing...My Magnum Opus

Dj Shadow - Endtroducing...[The Samples]
(Megaupload)

After doing the Deadringer samples, I felt it only appropriate to do one for Endtroducing, its spiritual godfather. Bad idea. Very Bad Idea. This was a monster. When I saw the sample list I almost gave up before I started. These samples took me to the bowels of the internet and on the way I think I learned enough German and Portuguese to talk my ass out of a fight. If I tried to remember and list all of the different blogs and forums that helped me in my search my brain would bail out my ears. So here goes nothing and everything. 70 mthrfckng samples.

Nice job man! I'm sorry to say I'm not familiar with this album, but after seeing all the samples used I gotta check it out just for the sake of production. Thanks!

you sir, are a beast.

Goon - Wow. That's too much. On the Shadow tip though, what about a Psyence Fiction sample set?

Kevin - Shame on you, LOL. Endtroducing is a life changing classic in my opinion.

PS. That Jo Ann Garret version of "Walk On By" is ridiculous.

Sorry Kevin, sorry Ivan, but goon just took over.

You have way too much time on your hands. shouldn't you be working on your thesis? BAD GOON

goon said...

I think my thesis adviser is avoiding me.

Anonymous said...

why would she do that?

Jason @ PSB said...

Please tell me your thesis has something to do with sampling?

Jason - Sadly no, It's about the 1890's/1900's french director Georges Melies. I should do a post on Melies's one of these days.

Gabs - Well, I have two advisers, one for the writing and one for the filming. The writing one is on my ass, as she should be, but the filming prof has been off campus for damn near the whole term and I can't get a straight email from his ass.

I just read a bit on George Melies. I'm so un-educated, LOL. That's cool.

Man goon is killing the samples. I always wondered what samples Shadow used for that album.

BTW, Good luck on your thesis.

Fantastic work!! This sample set is something I've been craving since the night I first listed to Endtroducing in '96. Thanks so much for all the hard work on this.
One tiny gripe - it seems there's quite a few songs that cut off before their completion - ex: Flying Island, Shawn Phillips, S.O.U.L., etc - was this done on purpose to shorten the length of the set or was there simply something off with my particular download?
Thanks again Goon.

Cram - They are on purpose but simply because I couldn't find full versions of these songs, just previews.

Good work fella!!

Endtroducing is also in my top albums of all time, never gets old. You've just given it a new lease of life too.

Fair play to you.

Pretty Good! But... you got the wrong version of several tracks, and I see that you lifted a few of the tunes from the Frayerbreaks DJ Shadow set. Hmm...

Amazing!!! Been compiling this album myself for quite sometime, and you filled in a LOT of holes for me. I don't think there's anything I have that you're missing. Magnum Opus indeed. I can die happy. Thanks again. Peace!

You just made my day with this post. Thanks for putting in the work. Also, I don't mean to be an asshole, but the HP Riot track is incomplete - it stops after a minute. Thanks again.

Punjabi Folk Singers said...

My bad you've already pointed that out.

Any chance of getting this re-upped? Thanks!
